Best of the Rest (Weekly Links Ending 7/31/11)

by Tony

Big month for Landingstanding… over 400 unique visitors in July, I finally informed my boss of our trip, and we are only five months away from the beginning of our RTW adventure! Now what about our favorite travel articles of the week?

  • Travel Insurance. Planning for your trip can get tedious when it comes to the details… but blowing your entire budget on an emergency room visit is certainly a lot less fun. Don’t skimp!
  • Everyone fears getting sick while on the road. This article by Jodi on LegalNomads scares the sh*t out of me while simultaneously making me feel better because if she could survive all that… well, goshdarnit so can I.
  • We are obviously new to Vagabonding and constantly learning (haven’t even hit the road yet) , but we had not even thought about the trouble for Americans traveling long-term in Europe. We can only visit for a max of 3 months? Crazy! The only thing crazier is AdventurousKate not prolonging her Munich trip by two weeks to experience the start of Oktoberfest. Check out how much fun I had with the picture up top…
  • AdventurousKate’s suggestion that Slovenia is not counted in the European visitation days reminds of how much I wanted to see this beautiful country when I studied abroad in Italy… add it to the list!
  • Meg is the only person who could possibly love Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations more than me. Suffice it to say she will be excited by this news. The world needs a little more Bourdain!
  • We will always post great articles on what is essential for first time backpackers. We need the help…
  • Noooo… really? You can make cold beers just by wrapping one in wet toilet paper? Has anyone tested this? Now THIS is a backpacker essential.
  • Ant is making things a little spicier over at NomadicMatt, showing us how to keep that relationship hot and heavy while on the road.
  • A sexier visual on how many places you’ve traveled doesn’t exist. This is one fat passport.
