Best of the Rest (Weekly Links Ending 9/25/11)

If you are curious about what kind of crazy people quit their jobs to travel the world… then you haven’t read enough of our articles! But if you are still curious, then you should check out Meg’s superlatives on some of our favorite travel couples. If after reading about all of those great travel couples you want to learn more about the long-term travel community, then you will find no better introduction to it than this weekly post of our favorite travel articles from the last seven days.

  • We had a blast when we rampaged through Disney and Universal Studios in April and rode almost every coaster they both had, so we might have to check out these Orlando water parks before we start our RTW adventure!
  • No one told me about Cinque Terra before I went to Italy, but after getting dragged along on a trip with friends when I studied abroad, I tell everyone that it is a must-see! Hiking the trails is definitely worth it as every vista is a postcard and Mike and Luci show that just maybe, if you go with a spouse, you’ll find your relationship stronger at the end of a very long day.
  • Whether you are traveling the world or just working 9-5 in the city, saving money is important. However, do not let saving money be your ultimate goal. The money you save should be used to accomplish something you truly want. So don’t just scrimp and save at home to find yourself scrimping and saving on the road… enjoy that money that you have worked so hard to save! Work to save money on some of the big ticket items, but then make sure you spend those savings on something amazing like skydiving in Switzerland!
  • RTW travel by itself does not improve you as much as it gives you the time needed to improve (start your own business perhaps?). But be careful, while you might improve yourself when on the road, the entry back to your regular life might be quite a shock.
  • Fake it until you make it or when talking about RTW travel: Try before you buy a career break.
  • A bike ride from San Francisco to Patagonia? After reading this article, I could read a whole novel about the adventures of this guy and his juggling companion.
  • Just because I get to say: “Old piano gays are crazy!”
  • I hate heights and already told you about the day I faced my fears, so now hear about Craig’s skydiving experience in New Zealand.
  • For Thanksgiving, we are planning a multi-day drive from San Francisco to Seattle in order to eat turkey with Meg’s sister and her husband. I had not thought about it, but maybe we should stop in Tacoma on the way and see of the some sights?
