Best of the Rest (Weekly Links Ending 6/19/11)

by Tony

Maybe you’re interested in taking a career sabbatical.  Maybe you’ve got that travel itch.  Well we are and do so we scour the web each week to get as much information as possible.  These links below are some of the best from the past week that entertain, educate, and inspire. Enjoy!

  • As a proud Bostonian, first things first… BRUINS!!! It’s been a long time since the Bruins won the Cup, but the wait is finally over. As good as winning feels, losing a championship feels worse. The images from the riots in Vancouver were tough to see, but this is a fascinating first hand account… And it was nice to witness the good people of Vancouver sticking together to clean up the mess!
  • Fjords are cool.  Plus, NomadicMatt is right… what a ridiculously fun word to say!
  • 18 months, 27 countries… wow.  Manali and Matt crushed their RTW adventure and are now moving to Boston. Seems like 80% of all travel bloggers are from Boston these days.  Must be that dirty water!
  • Becoming a lifelong traveler is amazing, but not without sacrifice. Modern technology can help reduce the pain, but these are definitely some of the things I was worried about!
  • That feeling I got when I went skydiving in Interlocken?  That feeling I get when thinking about our impending travels?  Zen Habits nails it with: Joyfear. A powerful, scary, and always life changing emotion.
  • How did you and Meg save so much money? How can you afford to spend a year traveling the world? We get these questions from many of you and want to help.  The first place you should look? This article (and all of the articles) from IWillTeachYouToBeRich.
  • We’re hoping nobody gets engaged before we leave so that we do not have to decide to miss the wedding or end our travels. Adventurous Kate faced the same dilemma and does not regret making the trip back to the states.  What would you do?
