Week 2 of Brunch In Berlin – Foodgasmic Tales From The Road

Leanne and Tony at Cab Slam

Last week, Tony wrote an article on the famous brunch culture in Berlin.  As wonderful as the brunch scene is here, it is somewhat unsettling when the brunch places in Berlin ONLY have lunch fare – meatballs, salads, rice dishes… you get the point.

Tony can eat anything, anytime.

However, I am one of those breakfast snobs that needs actual breakfast food upon waking up: Eggs, fruit, bacon, toast… get in my belly! Anything else just doesn’t appeal to me in the AM.

Discovering that most Berlin brunch spots did not have these items on their menu was utterly disappointing for a gal like me.

Enter California Slam Breakfast (Cabslam) to the rescue!

Located in close proximity to our new apartment (bonus!), this café is rumored to be the go-to destination for a true American breakfast in Berlin.

Curious and in serious need of a solid b-fast, Tony and I ventured there today with our California-native pals, Leah and Leanne, to see what the hype was all about.

And boy were the rumors correct!

Omelets, Huevos Rancheros, French toast, pancakes… Cabslam has it all.

Leah's Huevos Rancheros

In an effort to be healthy, I opted for an egg white spinach omelet… I know, totally lame and boring!  But after being severely deprived of eggs, the omelet was a godsend.

My über healthy omelet!

And luckily, we ordered blueberry banana walnut pancakes for the table and I got to pick off of Tony’s All American plate of sausage, eggs, and hash browns…. I like to think that I had the best of many worlds!

Pancakes for all!

As much as we are attempting to crawl our way around the brunch spots in Berlin over the next few weeks, I think Cabslam is a place I want to visit over and over again.

After all, once you have found a great brunch place, why mess with fate?

Your turn: Do you have a favorite brunch place on the road or at home that you can’t get enough of?  Is it worth exploring new brunch spots in Berlin or should I stick with my new favorite?

Leah and I are all smiles at Cabslam

I don’t even like breakfast, but would still eat every one of those dishes! They look delish.

Whaaat no breakfast?! haha they were all delicious, but my favorite dish was the banana walnut and blueberry pancakes! They could turn any non-breakfast lover into a believer!
