Why Landing$tanding?

Life after college is a giant leap into uncertainty.

Here you just spent the last 20+ years always having a distinct plan for next year. After Kindergarten came first grade, after Middle School came High School, after High School came College.  Now what?  40 years in the workforce and then 10 years of retirement before the old folks home comes a calling?  Maybe…. or maybe there is something better.

This is why we exist at Landing$tanding… to help educate ourselves and others about personal finance in order to be free from the constraints of living paycheck to paycheck, year to year, and job to job.  Happiness, freedom, confidence - All things we seek and things that can be captured by investing wisely, saving smartly, and planning ahead.

And being recent college graduates ourselves, we understand how difficult it is to come across happiness, freedom, and confidence right after graduation.  The transition is tough!  One day you are bouncing around from keg party to keg party, spending all your time goofing around with your friends…and maybe a little bit of studying here and there.  And then the next day, you have to face the real world.

Whether you have a job right after college and are making more in one paycheck than you did at last summer’s internship or you are taking a few months off to discover the world and yourself, you are still at a new point in your life where you are more accountable for the personal and financial decisions that you make.

In addition to all of these responsibilities being thrown onto our shoulders, most of us are stuck in a lame desk job (where everyday day feels like “a case of the Monday’s”) just trying our best to move up the corporate ladder…because let’s face it; Nobody lands a job as the CEO of a cool little environmental design company or is hired immediately out of college as the CFO for a large multi-national corporation.

But while we are stuck in these oh-so-thrilling first jobs, we can be proactive and make the most out of the new lives ahead of us.

One way you can do this is by doing something with the money that you are earning today so you can enjoy spending it tomorrow…or in years to come (as Landing$tanding would recommend)! Recent grads and many not-so-recent grads take those new-found paychecks and put whatever remains after a month’s expenses into a checking or savings account.  But you can do so much better…and have fun while doing it!

By making your money work for you and your goals, you can become less dependent on that new job and start focusing on that dream job down the road. Investing wisely, spending conservatively…. these things do not have to boring. The biggest roadblock though, can sometimes be ourselves.  So here at Landing$tanding, there will be no lectures.  No telling you what to do - only showing you the possibilities.  Our wish is that you join us in our attempt to take the great leap, and hopefully, land standing!
